In December 2018, The Social Mix’s project Market@thesheds Pop-up market collaborated with The SANBI Pretoria Zoo and Gautrain, in an effort to bring more feet to the zoo and to motivate people to use the Gautrain during the busy season in December.
The Social Mix ongoing project Market@thesheds has a database of 600 traders. Because of this asset, we are able to provide anyone with confirmed informal traders on a short notice. Our famous Market@thesheds set-up is what attracted the Gautrain and SANBI to our offering.
Travelers who took the Gautrain to Pretoria gained free access to the zoo.
As part of the Gautrain December holiday campaign, Gautrain required 20 traders per day for their Market@thezoo campaign. We provided 35 top quality traders who were at the market on rotation for 15 days of December, including Christmas Eve, Christmas dan and Boxing day. Visitor numbers at the zoo improved significantly, with many families visiting the market and ultimately the zoo during the holiday period.
